December Holiday Luncheon On December 5, FAR members arrived to a room full of holiday decorations, music, and spirit! FAR members help themselves to holiday fare. This year members feasted on Roasted Turkey with Cranberry/Chipotle Compote, Coconut Crusted Talipia with Jamacian Rum Butter, traditional side dishes, and last, but not least, assorted holiday pies. FAR Chair, Patricia Adkins, takes the podium for the FAR Business Meeting. (See article to the right.) FAR Board Members Get Their Game On! Susan Medick (left) and Mindy Saffer (right) lead the fun and games starting with a holiday song challenge. Tables played as teams to guess the corresponding song to the correct image. (see below) After the game, door prizes for non-profit attendees were drawn. Thank you to our VERY generous for-profit members, plus a few non-profit members, for donating such wonderful door prizes!

FAR Annual Business Meeting
FAR Chair, Patricia Adkins, conducted the annual business meeting and shared the 2012 -2013 Strategic Plan. She stated that the focus for the year will be "Delivering the FAR Promise" which means ensuring the brand, purpose, and goals are our priorities. She highlighted five critical areas which the Board and Committees will have the responsibility:
*Continuing quality programming as the centerpiece of the organization
*Enhancing member value and increasing member engagement
*Increasing FAR visibility
*Building new partnerships
*Planning for the future - sustainability
Adkins emphasized the importance of maintaining the FAR brand and culture. She said that "caring about our organization at all levels, from the big things, like vision, mission and culture to every interaction with our members, potential members, and supporters, no matter how small, make us who we are."
She summarized the annual goals and key performance indicators within education, membership, communications and governance; and then updated the membership on financial trends, as well as membership and meeting trends.
She concluded the meeting by sharing that FAR's financial health and reserves were healthy, membership campaigns launched in 2012 would continue, the Collie Gorg Group completed another successful year, as our AMC, and technology enhancements to the FAR website for ease of navigation and access to information will continue.
Adkins thanked the membership for their support and said FAR was on a path to another success year.

FAR Charitable Giving
The generosity of the FAR members is greatly appreciated for their support of The Father McKenna Center, as this year's charitable giving opportunity.
During our holiday party, the Center received $885.00 in gift card donations and many of the items they need on a regular basis from their "Wish List." Both Tom Howarth, the Center Director who spoke at our luncheon, and Gary Hines, Associate Director and FAR member, expressed their gratitude for being selected and receiving the gifts and funds to further their mission.
If you would still like to make a donation during the holiday season and beyond, please click here. Or, you can contact the Center at http://www.fathermckennacenter.org/ or by calling (202) 842-1112.
Again, thank you for helping to make the holiday season better for The Father McKenna Center!
